Gause Law Offices PLLC

The Law Offices of Emily M. Gause PLLC is a criminal defense firm in Seattle, Washington. We represent clients throughout the State of Washington.

Why do I love being a criminal defense attorney?

I get to be the bright light of hope in an otherwise dismal situation. I get to be the voice that eases my clients concerns when they are terrified about what might happen to them. I get to fight with them, challenging every allegation against them, and working tirelessly to prove their defense. There's no other job I'd rather have.

Criminal defense is my passion.

After graduating with a degree in criminal justice from Washington State University, I dove into law school with the intent of becoming a criminal defense attorney. My commitment to this path has never wavered. While attending Seattle University School of Law, I worked at Northwest Defenders Association, a public defender agency in King County. Prior to that, I was a Rule 9 Law Clerk with the Washington State Attorney General's Office where I focused on dependency cases and juvenile law.

For years, I worked alongside John Henry Browne, a notorious criminal defense attorney who has practiced in Seattle for close to 40 years. I learned from Mr. Browne's extensive trial experience and launched my practice by defending high-stakes, high-profile felonies throughout the state of Washington with his firm.

I started my own firm in November 2014. At the Law Offices of Emily M. Gause, I am able to provide affordable, aggressive, and compassionate advocacy for my clients.

My practice focuses on representing people accused of serious felony crimes in state courts and in federal courts, both in the Western District of Washington as well as the Eastern District of Washington. I practice throughout the State of Washington, so I am familiar with many courts in various counties including: Kitsap, King, Snohomish, Whatcom, Pierce, Cowlitz, Clark, Chelan, Kittitas, and Garfield.

I believe that everyone has a story, and my role is to be the advocate that tells your story.

Time for Washington to abandon the death penalty

seattletimes.com

In 2015, I wrote an article for Washington Defender Association (WDA) and Washington Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (WACDL)'s quarterly magazine, "Washington Criminal Defense." I predicted that we, as a State, were on the verge of abolishing the death penalty. It appears that time has arrived. Read The Seattle Times opinion piece on this topic below!

Q&A with Emily M. Gause on the Seattle University School of Law website:

law.seattleu.edu I felt so compelled to help fix a broken system. I remember hearing statistics of recidivism rates and thinking about how prison/jail does no good in preventing crime or rehabilitating those who desperately need support and services.

Blue Lies Matter: How The Rise Of Video Shattered Police Credibility

buzzfeed.com

Blue Lies Matter -- they affect all of us.

buzzfeed.com Cameras prove cops lie, and there are more cameras out in the world today than ever before. BuzzFeed News reviewed 62 incidents of video footage contradicting an officer’s statement.

"Our Constitution is a remarkable, beautiful gift. But it’s really just a piece of parchment. It has no power on its own. We, the people, give it power – with our participation, and the choices we make. Whether or not we stand up for our freedoms. Whether or not we respect and enforce the rule of law."
-- President Barack Obama, Farewell Speech
